Ben,

Thanks for your comment! I will make sure to check out your book review and post something about it on the blog. It sounds like you and I have the same view about the "drug rants" in the 60's and I am truly not for it. I think that the worst thing that could have been done with such a powerful consciousness exploring tool in America is abusing the hell out of it and making it illegal. They being more educated people then the average person, should have seen its usefulness for good and helping people and slowly exposed the public to the idea.

This is a great book! I was genuinely shocked at how well written and researched it was too. My expectations were a bit low because of the reputation of McKenna, Leary and crew for their, dare I say, "drug rants".

If you get a chance, you might enjoy checking out a little <a href="http://dreaminglife.org/a-book-review-of-food-of-the-gods-by-terence-mckenna/" rel="nofollow">review I wrote of this book</a> awhile back, too.

BTW, it's been awhile since I've been to your blog. You've got a kickass thing going here. Love the Elegant theme you've got set up too. This was one of the themes I was sizing up using myself, actually, at one point.

Comment on Question of the week: “Sleep paralysis night terrors about angels vs demons?” by running606

Wow! I know I must sound strange saying all this but oh well. I read your post about angels vs. demons. I saw the date that you posted it, that's my birthday. April 20th.
Anyway, last night I had a very real dream that I found myself watching two very large angels battling. They both had swords and I could feel every part of my body just go tense. I couldn't believe what I was seeing as I dreamed! The swords where huge and long and very shinny. These guys meant business. It was like some huge war that they has been fighting for a very long time. All of a sudden it was me that was holding off one of them. I knew that if this angel knocked that sword out of my hand I was done and I tried to wake myself up and was successful. In the past week I've had nightmares for the first time (well that I could remember). I woke thinking and just knowing inside that I had just witnessed something that maybe I wasn't suppose to. This is how I feel.
I believe in God. I know zero about Angels and demons. Like the wars in Heaven etc. I just found out tonight about who St. Michael the Archangel is for the first time. I don't feel he was in my dream but I feel like someone close to him fell into my dream if anyone can understand??
I'm not crazy and this has never happened to me. I do feel lucky to have seen this. It makes me believe something that I cannot touch. Has anyone else witnessed this?

KMG,

Exactly right, being to the point where your body is fighting for its life (or at least thinks so) really puts things into prospective. I was also told by a Buddhist teacher of mine that the terror that we experience at the time before lucidity could be our Karma or ourselves as we see ourselves. I would rather be a panda than some of the other scary things that I have seen. In terms of brain activation and de-activation during sleep onset, we could also say that the amygdala has a large role to play in this scare process, but I guess in a sense we are our brain.

Thanks for the comment and happy dreaming!

Your brain gets creativity points for the Evil Fat Panda.

I've shared the same experience with Buddhist concept and illness. When you barely have the energy to survive the moment, you're not focusing on what's wrong with the world. You're just struggling to breathe or move.

Not many people think of chocolate as a drug but it does have that affect on some. Dr. Weil is usually full of good info so I'm sure it's a worthwhile book.
